Gypsy Vanner WIP

Gypsy Vanner WIP 1 & 2
Gypsy Vanner WIP 1 & 2
WIP #1
I found a wonderful reference photo of a Gypsy Vanner horse on Wet Canvas and decided to paint it. I've basically laid down an underpainting and am playing around with the background. I am using several ref photos of Ireland. Gysy Vanners were used in Ireland to pull the Gypsy caravans. Since my dh is from Ireland I am getting lots of advice on the background. I am planning to keep a real moody feel to this.

WIP#2
I let this sit overnight and I am not happy with the sky so changed things around a bit. I started laying down my darks and some details on the horse. Still a bit undecided about the composition of the background BUT that's how I work! Things will just come to me and I'll do it. That is one of the reasons I so love acrylics in that it accommodates my constantly changing ideas! I can just paint over what I don't like!
Sorry about the glare I had to photograph this because it rather large.
Measures 24 x 24, painted on triple gessoed and sealed board.
M Graham acrylics

I'dl love to hear your comments!
