Watercolor Canvas

It has been a while since my last post but I have been BUSY! This
latest piece that I have been working on has been so interesting. I did
this on Fredrix watercolor canvas and I have to say I had a love/hate
thing going on with this support. It definitely requires a different
technique but I played around and ended up with this, as yet, untitled
painting. Names please!!! I ended up really enjoying working with this
support. This measures 16 x 12 and is watercolor on canvas. I'll be
varnishing it tonight and it will be available for purchase.

Hi.. I have been painting on Watercolor Canvas since it came out and just love it.. It kinda spoils one to paint on watercolor paper, as you can rectify errors of all kinds..

I have framed them all in glass, but you mentioned a canvas spray, and I have been wondering about that.. What do you use and how do you apply it....very carefully I would suspect, so as not to make the paint run... I would appreciate a reply and I thank you before hand..hugs.. Lovely painting Deborah! You work is very special. I have been painting on water color canvas for 5 years now and would never go back to regular canvas. I paint in acrylics and I love the very fine weave of the canvas. I use the stretched canvas and also the board. Which do you use?

Hi Deborah,

Thanks for your comment on my work, like you I have such a passion for horses.

I actually like both - though I've been using the gallery wrapped canvas lately to do away with having to frame, I find that my borders take the place of a frame. The boards are much more solid to work on but of course have to be framed. It's quite the dilemma actually!

I am really glad that I found this canvas by accident all those years ago! Love your paintings too!

Cheers,

Fiona

HI, I LOVE WATERCOLOR CANVAS, AFTER TAKING A CLASS FROM TOM LYNCH LAST SUMMER. DO YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO PREP THE CANVAS BEFORE PAINTING. TAKE A ROUGH, WET, TERRY CLOTH, AND SCRUB IT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. IT REMOVES THE SIZING SO YOUR PAINT ADHERES BETTER. I PAINT IN LAYERS DRYING EACH LAYER. DON'T RUB TOO MUCH... HAD I NOT TAKEN HIS CLASS I WOULDN'T BE PAINTING ON CANVAS TODAY. I SPRAY THE FINISHED PAINTING WITH VARNISH AND THEIR GORGEOUS. SPREAD THE WORD. JANIS

Just wondering why you would get watercolor canvas if you then remove the sizing? Why not use regular canvas as the sizing i thought is what makes the canvas suitable for watercolor?
